Developer Guide

• 6 Vol / 1.9% – Designed for gentle color deposit, toning and softer demi/semi-permanent results; also suitable for gentler lightening applications when specified

• 10 Vol / 3% – Ideal for deeper deposit, same-level or darker color services and demi-permanent results

• 20 Vol / 6% – Commonly used when lift and deposit are needed, including grey coverage and approximately 1–2 levels of lift

• 30 Vol / 9% – Used when greater lifting power is required

• 40 Vol / 12% – Provides the highest level of lift within the REF developer range and is intended for appropriate professional high-lift or lightening techniques

How to Use

Select the appropriate REF Cream Developer according to the desired color result, starting level, condition of the hair and service being performed. Mix in a non-metallic bowl using a non-metallic whisk until the formula reaches a smooth, even consistency. Always follow the specific mixing ratio recommended for the REF color or lightener being used.

For example, REF Blonde.ID High-Lift Bleach is mixed at a 1:2 ratio with REF Developer. Developer strength and processing time should be selected according to the desired degree of lift and the condition of the hair. REF advises that 30 Vol and 40 Vol should not come into direct contact with the scalp during bleaching services.

Processing time varies depending on the REF product, developer volume, starting hair color, porosity, condition and desired result. Always monitor the hair throughout processing and follow REF’s professional color instructions for the specific service.
